I Wish That I Was Home

A simple brief thought on Scottish Independance. Were the outdated union not of some very high value to England and the English, why would they fight so to try to keep it? There are only so many slices to a pie, for one to have more, another must have less. Lastly - to those Scottish "Loyalists" - to whom are you loyal? Scots royalty died in the 1700's so it can be no Scots crown - And certainly not it appears to those who came before, that bled for Scotland and her freedom !

In the words of Burns, as he wrote from the heart. Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled, Scots, wham Bruce has aften led, Welcome to your gory bed, Or to victorie. Now's the day, and now's the hour; See the front o' battle lour; See approach proud Edward's power, Chains and slaverie. Wha would be a traitor-knave? Wha can fill a coward's grave? Wha sae base as be a Slave? Let him turn and flie: Wha for Scotland's king and law, Freedom's sword will strongly draw, Free-man stand, or free-man fa', Let him follow me. By Oppression's woes and pains! By your Sons in servile chains! We will drain our dearest veins, But they shall be free! Lay the proud Usurpers low! Tyrants fall in every foe! Liberty's in every blow! Let us Do - or Die!!! Choose your destiny.
Oh I wish that I was home, oh I wish that I was home For it's there I've a wife, she's the cuddle of my life And I wish that I was home My name is Willie John McCann If you want an old sea-dog then I'm your man But I was a lot younger when this voyage began And I wish that I was home Sailed from Greenock town where I was born Twice round the globe and around the Horn Now I don't think I'll live to see the morn And I wish that I was home We've a fine old ship but she's seen her best It's time that she was laid to rest But not before I'm safely at my good wife's breast And I wish that I was home I've been at sea since the age of ten Carried goods around the world again and again Now I have a cargo of my fellow men And I wish that I was home We have four hundred slaves all black as coal Crammed into a filthy hole I worry 'bout their lives and I worry 'bout my soul And I wish that I was home I pray Dear Lord that you're watching me As I struggle all night against the sea For I'm not a slave, Lord, my soul is free And I wish that I was home The old hull's cracking in the force of the swell She's listing badly, taking water as well I pray we don't go down all the way to hell And I wish that I was home The rain is pounding on my head My fingers feel like lumps of lead I can't take a rest or we'll all be dead And I wish that I was home We made landfall at last with our cargo all found Now we're loaded with tobacco and homeward we're bound I'll settle with my wife in a country town No more will I leave home
